With so few weeks until Christmas, (and in my case even fewer until my husbands birthday), it is that time of the year when everyone is trying to buy the perfect gift for their special friends and family.

During 2020, I was so proud of my friend. She is not just an incredible human, but she is the most caring nurse I have had the pleasure to know. I wanted her to know how wonderful she is, and so I created this doll for her to keep. It is definitely one of a kind (just like my friend), because even if I was asked to create something like this again, it would never be the same as the first one I had made.

In fact, I have just visited a friend who is incredibly artistic and crafty. He showed me some of the beautiful pieces he has made around his home. One of which was a wooden love spoon he had crafted for his (now) wife who is from Wales. He explained to me that within a few months of knowing her, he had wanted to make her something unique and special. He integrated a treble clef into the love spoon (both he and his wife are very musical). I have to be honest, I don't think if he had wanted to buy her one it could have been anywhere near as mesmerising to look at, nor could it possibly have been as unique and special. Many years after gifting it to her, she still proudly displays it in her bedroom.

Lasting Memories:

I created this gift for a very special girl who was having a particularly difficult time just after returning back to school after the lockdown in 2020. She was finding everything (as many of us were) very difficult, and as a result she found herself escaping into her books. Her favourite had been 'Harry Potter- Order of the Pheonix', for many many years. She now deemed this her comfort book. Unfortunately, her first copy that she had read had practically fallen apart after reading it so many times, and so whilst she bought a new one, she didn't know what to do with her old copy.

Rather than throwing it away, I was able to create something from it that she could always keep. With her permission, I was able to use some of the pages the particularly special parts, and the final page to make her a 3D shadow picture. This is up on her wall, and she has categorically said that she will keep it forever.

I also created a gift for a lady who was in her 70s. She had explained that she had never been given a teddy in all of her life. That sparked a definite need to create a teddy with some real meaning. It would have been easy to go and buy a teddy from the shops, but I knew that this had to be a little bit more special.

When a wonderful Mum came to me and asked me to create a special gift for her daughters significant birthday, I was delighted and honored that she asked for my help. The young lady had had a very special toy given to her as a baby, and her Mum wanted me to re-create it in crochet.

I created it, and her reaction upon opening the gift was exactly the reason I do what I do! (I did check with her Mum that those tears you see in the picture are happy tears rather than sad!)
